DMAIC refers to a data-driven quality strategy for improving processes and is an integral part of the company’s Six Sigma Quality Initiative. DMAIC is an acronym for five interconnected phases: Define, Measure, Analyse, Improve, and Control.
Each step in the cyclical DMAIC Process is required to ensure the best possible results.
The process steps:
Define
This involves Defining the Customer, their Critical to Quality (CTQ) issues, and the Core Business Process involved. This process involves identifying the project boundaries and mapping the process flow that needs to be improved.
Measure
This involves developing a data collection plan for the processes from many sources to identify the different issues and matrices inside the factory.
Analyse
This refers to the analysis of data collected and process map to determine root causes of defects and opportunities for improvement. In the process, the gaps in the process are also estimated, to achieve the desired performance.
Improve
This refers to designing creative solutions to fix and prevent problems. The innovative solutions can be using technology and/or by creating discipline in the existing process.
Control
This stage refers to keeping the new processes in place and to prevent them from going back to earlier stage. This can involve documentation, review mechanisms, trainings etc.
